Anti-Inflammatory Diet Reduces Risk Of Death


Want to lower your risk of death from any cause, including cardiovascular disease and cancer? Eat an anti-inflammatory diet!

In a study involving over 68,000 adults who were followed for 16 years, those who included the most anti-inflammatory foods in their diets enjoyed the following benefits relative to those eating the least:
  • 18 percent less likely to die from any cause
  • 20 percent less likely to die from cardiovascular disease
  • 13 percent less likely to die from cancer

(Former and current smokers in the study benefitted even more.)

These results are not surprising given that excess inflammation at the cellular level is a key driver of almost all chronic diseases. Anti-inflammatory foods include fruits, veggies, beans, whole grains, olive oil, nuts, oily fish, coffee, tea, dark chocolate, and moderate amounts of red wine. Pro-inflammatory foods include red and processed meats, sugary foods and beverages, and refined grain foods.
