Keto diet continues to get the attention of people trying to burn belly fat. But one expert cautioned that missing one important rule could ruin the good effects of the diet.

People on keto need to reduce foods that contain high amounts of carbs. The eating plan focuses on food options that are high in healthy fats and moderate protein content. 

“A keto or ketogenic diet is a very low-carb diet (not no carb), which turns the body into a fat-burning machine,” Daniel Herman, a fitness expert, told Express.co.uk. “It has many proven benefits for weight loss, health and performance, as millions of people have experienced already.”

The foods commonly recommended to people on the low-carb, high-fat diet include eggs, avocado, fatty fish and dairy, which all provide good amounts of healthy fats. If you want to speed up the fat burning process, avoid high-carb products like pasta, rice, sugary fruits and sweet treats.

But the keto diet has one rule that many people miss out. Herman said dieters should consume foods with less than five percent carbs to get best results when trying to burn belly fat. 

“As a basic beginner’s rule, stick to foods with fewer than five percent carbs, feel free to supplement with high quality protein powders,” he said.

Eating carbs at this amount could help put the body in the state of ketosis. It involves the production of fuel molecules called ketones that help promote fat loss.

The keto diet encourages the body to use fat as alternative fuel to support its functions.

“Insulin levels become very low, and fat burning increases dramatically,” Herman said. “It becomes easy to access your fat stores to burn them off.”

Bad Keto Products

Herman warned that some people may be eating processed keto products that have been silently ruining their weight loss plan. These foods promise to provide low amounts of carbs but are actually made “full of carbs once you see through the creative marketing.”

Some commonly bad keto foods are pasta and chocolate. Herman said these low-carb products “usually work poorly” and “have prevented weight loss for loads of people.”
