Before I tell you about my new reverse dieting course, I want to talk about one mistake I see a lot of women make. They rush from one diet to the next without taking time to plan out their nutrition. You might think you’re ready for your next diet, but you’re most likely not.
You probably shouldn’t diet.
Not because it’s bad.
Not because you’ll fail.
Not because you shouldn’t want to change your body composition.
Not because diet culture is stupid.
You probably shouldn’t diet because you might not be READY to do it right now. Yes, this is a thing.
Even though it seems like everyone is (and should be) on a diet 24/7/365, that doesn’t mean it’s smart, effective, or healthy.
Does this sound like you?
If you fall into one or more of the following categories, you probably shouldn’t diet right now:
- You only recently stopped dieting after months or years eating at an extreme caloric deficit
- You feel like you need a ton of cardio to maintain your current weight
- Life is stressful and will only get more stressful soon (a move, new job, virtual schooling, etc.)
- Your diet mindset sucks
- You’ve got an unhealthy relationship with food and/or exercise
- You already aren’t sleeping, drinking water, eating healthy, or coping well with stress
If you’re thinking about dieting, but struggling with one of the above scenarios, adding a restrictive diet on top of what you’re currently dealing with could, a) cause frustration when the diet ‘doesn’t work’ or b) cause mental or physical damage.
Either way, it’s no good.
Ok, let’s talk about “the diet before the diet.”
The diet before the diet (aka reverse dieting)
Most of the women who come to me for nutrition coaching come to lose weight. But, before I can help them lose, I have to help them get their bodies HEALTHY ENOUGH to diet effectively.
YES, this is a thing.
Most women have been dieting for months (sometimes years) before coming my way. This means they have been eating too few calories for way too long. Their metabolism is burned out, their hormones are a wreck, and their internal systems are doing everything they can, simply to keep them alive.
In this case, cutting down to FEWER calories and adding MORE exercise (something many try doing when results are stalled) will do nothing but add insult to injury.
So instead, I help them improve their mindset around food and increase the quantity (and quality) of foods they eat. We do this progressively over time and we do this mindfully to ensure that they’re on track both physically and psychologically. Here’s what to expect with a reverse diet.
It isn’t easy, but it’s doable. And if we don’t do it, I’d be recklessly subjecting my client to more metabolic adaptations, muscle loss, and zero progress. All bad things.
Optimizing your metabolism with a ‘diet before the diet’ is the only way to see results over the long-term and to experience these results in a safe and healthy way.
