South Shore man burglarized Prince’s Bay home, prosecutors allege

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A Huguenot man burglarized the home of a fellow South Shore resident four months ago, then went out and bought himself a TV with a credit card he had stolen, allege prosecutors.

Carlos Toro, 30, of the 800 block of Rensselaer Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday in state Supreme Court, St. George, on burglary and other charges stemming from the alleged Nov. 22 theft in Prince’s Bay.

He pleaded not guilty.

The incident occurred at around 3:50 p.m. on the 200 block of Bayview Avenue, said a criminal complaint.

Toro illegally entered the home and stole $3,000 in cash, along with three credit cards, an indictment said.

He was quick to try to take advantage of his booty, allege prosecutors.

Later that evening, at around 8:30 p.m., the defendant bought a bolt cutter and Drano at The Home Depot in Charleston with a stolen credit card, the complaint said.

He then went to the nearby Target store and purchased an LG 4K UHD TV with another pilfered credit card, said the complaint.

Toro was busted four days later at home, authorities said.

During the raid, cops found a number of pills of phentermine hydrochloride, a weight-loss drug, in the kitchen, said the complaint.

The LG TV was mounted to a wall, the complaint said.

Toro was charged with second-degree burglary, grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

His case was adjourned to May 6.

Defense lawyer Christina Paliogiannis declined comment.
