Fans could be seeing far less of This Country star Daisy May Cooper in 2021 as the comedy star goes on a diet.
Daisy May, who had a son Jack in September, seems to have made a new year resolution to lose some weight.
The star from Cirencester, has told fans she is on a diet recommended by her father Paul and friend Sarah and is surprised by how quick she is shedding the pounds.
Her Instagram page shows the actress standing in front of some mirror tiles and praising the diet.
Daisy, who wrote and starred in the BBC Three mockumentary about the Cotswolds, is pictured in one ‘before’ picture, which has been liked 76,239 times by followers, including pop star Ellie Goulding.
In the “after” snap she wears pyjama bottoms and a bra which makes her look the full 5’9″ she has listed on her Spotlight page.
But she reassures her legion of followers that she is not planning to sell fitness and diet DVDs like so many other celebrities.
“Anyone else doing keto?” she writes.
She continues, which we have edited for bad language only: “My mate Sarah and my da suggested I give it a try and im shocked at how quickly weight is dropping off.
“Forgive the s**** mirrors and grey bra and the fact im not standing in the same position so I look like a midget on the right …
“And don’t panic… im not going to be promoting any s*** weight loss dvds or products. Pic on the right taken 1st of Jan. Be grateful for any keto tips, only diet I’ve ever really enjoyed.”
The diet encourages people to eat protein and fat rather than carbohydrates and spawned the phrase “no carbs before Marbs” , referring to the TOWIE (The Only Way is Essex) cast’s quest to look good in a swimsuit before their annual jaunts to the beaches of Marbella.
Daisy could do “No Carbs Before Arbs” the Arboricultural Association Show at Westonbirt Arboretum.
Dad Paul, who appeared in This Country and Celebrity Gogglebox with Daisy-May replied: “Yea the thing about the keto diet is it makes you pull stupid faces”
Daisy May married long-term partner Will Weston in 2019, the father of her two children Pip and Jack.
Part of the comic’s charm is the complete lack of vanity on screen and on her public social media posts.
When asked about her Happy Place by Stylist magazine she once said: “Watching ghost documentaries in my pyjamas while eating a McDonald’s quarter pounder, two double cheeseburgers, a Big Mac, large fries, cheesy bites and a full-fat Coke.
But This Country costume designer Jacqueline White once revealed to a trade magazine that the actress is not as big as her character Kerry Mucklowe appears on screen.
Daisy was seven months pregnant during filming for the second series of This Country so the costume department invested in a body padding suit to hide the bump,
Jacqueline admitted : “We upped her by about two dress sizes”.
She also said she made sure that all of Kerry’s outfits were so large that they made her look square.
“Anything to do with Kerry’s femininity or sexuality was wiped,” she said.
“In an aesthetic sense we aimed to make her look like a block and make her look bigger.
“I would do things like rub Vaseline into the collars and the cuffs and spray her clothes, so nothing would ever appear shiny or clean or a spark. All of her costumes were creased. Nothing was steamed, ironed, or anything like that.”
The comic has become a lockdown star so it will be interesting to see if this none shrinking violet turns into a shrinking daisy over the course of the lockdown.
