Weight loss story: “I lost 22 kilos in just 7 months by following Keto diet!”


Being overweight not only impacts your overall health but also severely dents your self-confidence and self-esteem. When 31-year-old Ateeq Shaikh realised that all the extra kilos were hampering his mental as well as physical well being, he decided to lose weight and get back in shape. Ateeq made some massive lifestyle changes to lose a whopping 22 kilos. His

Duration it took me to lose weight: Almost 7 months

The turning point: When you are overweight, you are always under-confident and feel scared while attending social gatherings. Eventually, I realised that I was slipping into depression, thanks to the judgemental stares and unsolicited advice about losing weight.

Hence, I did try several diets and workout routines over the years, but nothing quite worked for me as Keto did. While initially, it was really difficult to leave basics like rice and chapati and adapt a completely different diet routine, but I gradually adapted to the keto routine. The result is here for everyone to see.

My breakfast: 3-4 glasses of warm water and a cup of green tea

My lunch: I eat anything from cheese omelette with flaxseeds, almond bread, to grilled chicken or fish and avocado. I make sure to keep my calorie intake between 450 to 600.

My dinner: I make it a point to eat my dinner latest by 7:30 pm. I have cauliflower fried rice with grilled chicken and bone broth.

Pre-workout meal: None


Post-workout meal:
None

I indulge in: There is no cheat meal during the Keto diet as anything above 50 grams of net carbs will kick you out of ketosis. Hence, once a week I eat a Keto-friendly dessert made of monk fruit sweetener or a pizza made of flaxseeds and cauliflower crust.

My workout: I keep my workout simple and go for running or walking for 2 kilometres every day.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Cauliflower fried rice, Saag, Palak Paneer and Keto-friendly dosa made of mozzarella cheese.

How do I stay motivated? When you are healthy, it gives you a different kind of confidence which always keeps me motivated.


How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?
When I feel that I am losing my focus, I think of my weight loss target and the benefits of being healthy.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? Being obese, also makes you susceptible to a myriad of health conditions including cardiovascular diseases. Secondly, you always feel underconfident and low while meeting friends and relatives or while attending any social event.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I will make it a point to alternate between strict and dirty Keto for a long time as I want to remain fit and healthy for the rest of my life. For the unversed, dirty keto is also known as lazy keto, it is the slightly unhealthy version of the regular keto diet, where you can eat processed and packaged foods as well.


What are the lifestyle changes you made?
I made two lifestyle changes and made it a point to follow them strictly. For starters, I completely avoid junk food and packaged food items. I closely watch my sugar intake as well.


What was the lowest point for you?
It was definitely when I had just started doing the Keto diet and it was very difficult to avoid everyday food items like wheat and rice,


Lessons learnt from weight loss:
After losing weight and getting back in shape, I have realised that health is indeed wealth. I not only feel incredibly confident after losing all the extra kilos, but I also feel healthier and happier.
